FAS - Foetal Alcohol Syndrome

What is FAS? 

  • If the mother drinks alcohol at any time during her pregnancy there is a risk of FAS

 What are the symptoms of FAS?

  • Developmental delays in growth and learning
  • Small head and jaw

  • Distinctive facial features

  • Learning needs

  • Mood, attention and behavioural needs

  • Difficulties or problems with liver, kidneys, heart or other organs

  • A weaker immune system

 What does FAS mean for my child? 

  • The child diagnosed with FAS are likely to develop both physical and mental health problems

  • Exposure to alcohol in the womb significantly impacts on the child’s development, particularly the brain and spinal cord
